Our aim is to promote the enjoyment of music in all children in a way that develops their enthusiasm, imagination and skills. We have a strong focus on learning to play instruments together, as well as singing together. The National Curriculum for music is divided into two broad areas:
- Listening and applying knowledge and understanding
- Performing, composing and appraising
Throughout each half-term all children are involved in activities as they respond to music they have listened to and are encouraged to make their own. The activities for each half-term have a focus which is drawn from the musical elements in the curriculum. Children have access to a range of musical instruments which are used in all areas of music lessons. Alongside weekly music lessons there are opportunities for listening to music and for singing during assemblies and special events like church services. The school also provides violin, guitar, piano and drum tuition for a fee, which is very popular. Concerts are held regularly for the pupils to perform and demonstrate their progress. Please see the separate music page on this website for further information.
