Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding paid to schools for children who have been registered for free schools meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years or are looked after continuously by the local authority for more than six months and children of service personnel.

The pupil premium was introduced in April 2011. All schools are to use the funding to support their eligible pupils and narrow the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The aim of the Pupil Premium funding is to raise the life chances of disadvantaged pupils and address the inequalities between children eligible for free school meals and their peers.
